Church CovenantWritten by Jol on Jan 13, 2014
THAT THE BIBLE IS THE INSPIRED, INERRANT, AND INFALLIBLE WORD OF GOD AND IS THE BASIS FOR ANY STATEMENT OF FAITH. WE AS A BODY OF BAPTIZED BELIEVERS IN JESUS CHRIST, ARE COMMITTED TO THE STUDY AND TEACHING OF THE BIBLE, BELIEVING THAT IT IS PROFITABLE FOR TEACHING, FOR REPROOF, FOR CORRECTION AND FOR TRAINING IN RIGHTEOUSNESS, THAT BELIEVERS MAY BE EQUIPPED FOR EVERY GOOD WORK.
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
*When the creed states, “I believe in the holy catholic church,” it refers to the universal church rather than a specific branch of Christianity. The word catholic comes from the Greek word katholikos which means “universal” or “general.”
We believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
begotten from the Father before all ages,
God from God,
Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made;
of the same essence as the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven;
he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary,
and was made human.
He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered and was buried.
The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again with glory
to judge the living and the dead.
His kingdom will never end.
And we believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life.
He proceeds from the Father and the Son,
and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified.
He spoke through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.
We affirm one baptism* for the forgiveness of sins.
We look forward to the resurrection of the dead,
and to life in the world to come. Amen.
*When the creed states, “We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins,” it refers to believers baptism. That we are called to obedience to be baptized after God has saved us. This act does not save us, but is the outward showing of what has already happened to us.
TO, BY THE WORKING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD, WALK TOGETHER IN CHRISTIAN LOVE
TO STRIVE FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF THE CHURCH IN KNOWLEDGE AND HOLINESS
TO CONTRIBUTE, AS LED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD, TO THE MINISTRY BY GIVING OF MY TIME, TALENTS AND TREASURES. TO ESTABLISH KINGDOM BUILDING CHURCHES, TO HELP THE POOR AND TO SPREAD THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
TO SUSTAIN THE CHURCHES WORSHIP, DISCIPLINE, DOCTRINE AND ORDINANCES WHICH ARE BAPTISM AND COMMUNION
TO SEEK WAYS TO MAINTAIN A DEVOTIONAL LIFE BOTH PERSONAL AND IN OUR FAMILIES, EDUCATE OUR CHILDREN IN THE TRUTH OF SCRIPTURE AND TO SEEK OUT OTHERS THAT WE CAN REACH IN OUR SPHERE OF INFLUENCE FOR THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST.
TO WALK UPRIGHTLY IN THE WORLD, BE JUST IN OUR DEALINGS IN THE WORLD, AND BE ZEALOUS IN OUR EFFORTS TO FURTHER THE KINGDOM OF GOD.
TO WATCH OVER ONE ANOTHER IN BROTHERLY LOVE, REMEMBER ONE ANOTHER IN PRAYER, AID ONE ANOTHER IN SICKNESS AND DISTRESS, BE WATCHING OF OUR ATTITUDES AND SPEECH TO ONE ANOTHER, SLOW TO TAKE OFFENSE OF ONE ANOTHER, ALWAYS READY TO RECONCILE WITH ONE ANOTHER.
HAVING RECEIVED JESUS CHRIST AS LORD AND SAVIOR, BY THE WORKING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.
HAVING PROFESSED OUR FAITH IN GOD THE FATHER, GOD THE SON AND GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT, WE MOST SOLEMNLY AND JOYFULLY ENTER INTO A COVENANT WITH ONE ANOTHER, AS ONE BODY OF CHRIST.
